Daivavyapāśraya Cikitsā is one of the three classical therapeutic approaches described in Ayurveda, alongside Yukti-vyapāśraya Cikitsā and Sattvāvajaya Cikitsā. This course introduces participants to the traditional Ayurvedic understanding of physical and mental suffering that is attributed to the effects of past actions (pūrva-janma karma) and to the distinctive therapeutic methods prescribed for addressing such suffering.
According to the Ayurvedic and Vedic worldview, not every form of suffering can be understood solely in terms of presently observable physical causes. Certain conditions may be interpreted as consequences of previously accumulated karmic impressions (karmika saṃskāras and vāsanās) that become manifest in the present life. From this perspective, Yukti-vyapāśraya Cikitsā—which includes rational therapeutic measures such as appropriate diet, medicines, procedures, and, where necessary, surgery—addresses conditions that arise through identifiable physical and physiological causes. Sattvāvajaya Cikitsā, on the other hand, emphasizes mastery and regulation of the mind and the avoidance of thoughts, foods, behaviors, and lifestyle patterns that are incompatible with one's well-being.
Daivavyapāśraya Cikitsā addresses a different dimension of suffering: conditions traditionally understood as having a daivika or karmic origin, particularly when ordinary therapeutic measures are considered insufficient within the classical framework.
The course provides a systematic study of the principal practices of Daivavyapāśraya Cikitsā, including:
A distinctive feature of this course is its emphasis on personal practice and self-care. Participants will learn how traditional practices may be incorporated into daily life to cultivate discipline, emotional resilience, hope, ethical awareness, positive mental states, and spiritual orientation.
The course does not merely present these practices as historical rituals. It examines their traditional rationale and contemporary psychosocial dimensions, including the possible roles of intention, meaning, disciplined behavior, meditation, prayer, social connection, charitable activity, sensory experience, and emotional regulation.
Participants will therefore learn how to develop an individualized program of appropriate practices for their own spiritual and psychological well-being.
By completing this course, participants will be able to:
Assessment is optional for those wishing to receive a Completion Certificate (about half our participants go for it). Assessment is based on a quiz or an essay.

Completion Certificates are awarded by Indian Foundation for Vedic Science on successful assessment.
