Originally written in Hindi, this influential work presents Swami Dayanand’s interpretation of the Vedas and his systematic examination of religious beliefs, philosophical doctrines, social practices, and ethical principles.
The course introduces learners to Dayanand Saraswati’s central objective of restoring what he regarded as the authentic spirit of Vedic thought through reason, evidence, ethical conduct, and devotion to the one Supreme Being. It examines his critique of superstition, idolatry, ritualism, social inequalities, sectarian dogmas, and practices that he considered inconsistent with Vedic principles.
Particular attention will be given to Dayanand’s use of logic, rational inquiry, scriptural interpretation, ethics, and theism in developing his philosophical position. Students will explore his understanding of God, the individual self, nature, karma, rebirth, liberation, morality, education, social organization, and the role of the Vedas in human life.
